The Third Pillar of Islām
Az zakāh (Almsgiving) is the Islamic practice of giving a mandatory alms or tithe from one's wealth to charity. It is the pillar of Islām, where Muslims who meet a wealth threshold (nisāb) donate 2.5% of their wealth annually to purify it and help those in need. This charitable giving is specifically for those who have wealth beyond their essential needs.
