What is Guslul Ḥayḍ
Guslul Ḥayḍ is the ritual purification performed by a woman after her menstrual period ends, to restore ritual purity and allow her to resume acts of worship like prayer and fasting.
Reasons of Performing Guslul Ḥayḍ
- To Resume Worship: Performing Guslul Ḥayḍ allows a woman to resume acts of worship like prayer & fasting, which are forbidden during menstruation.
- For ritual purity: It purifies the body from the major ritual impurity caused by menstruation, according to Islamic law.
Prohibited Activities During Ḥayḍ
Prohibited activities or actions during menstruation period include:
- Performing the daily prayers
- Fasting
- Engaging in sexual intercourse
- Circumambulating the kaʿabah (Ṭawāf) during ḥajj or ʿumrah
How to Perform Guslul Ḥayḍ
These are basic steps on how to perform Guslul Ḥayḍ:
- Intention(An Niyyah): Make the intention of performing Guslul Ḥayḍ.
- Wash Hands: Wash your hands up from finger to the wrist.
- Wash Private Parts: Wash and clean your private part.
- Perform Wuḍūʾ: Perform the ritual ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ) 1x.
- Water Over Body: Make sure water circulate to all part of the body by:
- Washing the head 3x
- Washing the right side of the body 3x
- Washing the left side of the body 3x
- Washing the front side of the body 3x
- Rub Body: Rub your body and ensure water reaches all parts of the body.
- Al Wuḍūʾ (Ablution): Complete your Gusl with ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ).
