Al Wuḍūʾ (Ablution) in Islām
Al Wuḍūʾ (Ablution) is a ritual purification involving washing specific parts of the body. It is a mandatory and crucial step to be in a state of ritual purity, as Prayer (Aṣ Ṣalāh) is considered invalid without it.
Invalidation of Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ)
Al Wuḍūʾ (Ablution) is invalidated by events such as:
- Urination
- Defecation
- Deep sleep
- Bleeding
- Flatulence
- Insanity
How to Perform Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ)
To perform Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ) endeavor to say "Bismillah" "In the name of Allah" and follow the below steps:
- Intention(An Niyyah): Make the intetion to perform Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ).
- Washing Hands: Wash your hands up from finger to the wrist including between the fingers three times (3x).
- Rinsing Mouth: Rinse your mouth three times (3x).
- Rinsing Nose: Gently sniff water into the nostrils, then expel it three times (3x).
- Washing Face: Wash your face from the hairline to the bottom of the chin, and from the earlobe to the other, three times (3x).
- Washing Arms: Wash your arms up to the elbows three times (3x), starting with the right arm and then the left.
- Wiping Head: Wipe your hands over your head, from the forehead and move to the back, and then back to the forehead once (1x).
- cleaning Ears: Wipe the inside of your ears with your index fingers and the outside with your thumbs.
- Washing Feet: Wash your feet up to the anckles, ensuring water gets between the toes. Start with the right foot and then do the left.
What to say upon completing the Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ)
After completing the Ablution (Al Wuḍūʾ) endeavor to say "Ash-hadu an lā ilaha illāllah waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu wa ash-hadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluhu. Allahumma ijʿalnī minat tawābīna wajʿalnī minal mutaṭahhirīn."
" I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, Who has no partner, and I bear witness that (Prophet) Muḥammad is His slave and His Messenger. Oh Allah, make me among those who turn to You in repetance, and make me among those who are purified".
