What to do after giving birth

Note: Immediately after a baby is born in Islām, the father or another elder whispers the Adhān (call to prayer) into the baby's right ear, Iqāmah (call for prayer) in the left ear, and a date or honey is gently placed in the baby's mouth for good fortune. Seeking Allah’s protection & guidance for the child and offers a blessing, such as "Bārakallāhu laka fil mawhūbi laka" (May Allah bless you with His gift to you).

Tips About Naming Ceremony

Prepare for ʿAqīqah: The ʿAqīqah ceremony, involving the sacrifice of animals (one for a female, two for a male), is a virtuous act performed on the 7th, 14th, or 21st day after birth. It includes shaving the baby's hair and giving them a beautiful, meaningful name.

Event Program:

• Opening Prayer: Firstly, we open the event by seeking Allah's protection for all guests, families and friends.
• Welcome and Introduction: Honoring the family and introducing the newborn baby.
• Recitation from the Holy Qurʾān: Recitation of some verses from Al-Qurʾān to seek for Allah's guidance, protection and blessings.
• Lecture: We teach what Islām says about importance of ʿAqīqah, parenting and Islamic values.
• Tasmiyyah: This phase, we announce the baby's name, brief explanation of it's meaning and we collect congratulatory gifts (money) for the baby.
• Special Prayer: This is the last program where we pray for the newborn baby to be blessed with good health, happiness, bright future, seeking for Allah's protection & guidance.
